6C-THE MACON NEWS, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1972 'Super Trees Available from Forest Agency "Super seedlings" grown from certified seed make up about 57 per cent of the 55.5 million tree seedlings available for order by Georgia landowners, according to Ray Shirley, Georgia Forestry Commission director. The 1972 crop represents a 16 per cent increase over 1971. An additional 8.6 million seedlings are being grown under contract to industries. The price all species of pine and lespedeza has increased $1 per thousand due to increased cost of production, Shirley reported.

Available seedlings and cost per th us a are longleaf, shortleaf, slash and Virginia pines, and improved loblolly, slahs and high gum yield slash pines, $7. Priced at $10 per thousand are eastern white pine, catalcottonwood cuttings, chestnut, swamp chestnut and sawtooth oaks, yellow poplar, red cedar, sweet gum and black walnut. Dogwood and wild crabapple seedlings are $25 per thousand. Early submission of orders is encouraged. Seedling application forms are available from the Forestry Commission county rangers, county agents, Soil Conservation Service technicians and Agricultural Conservation Program officers.

John H. Ashley -Funeral services' for Mr. John Harrison Ashley, 58, of Rte. 1, Dublin, who died Monday night in a Dublin hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Dexter United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Mr. Ashley, born and raised in Laurens County, was a veteran of WWII, a former member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge of Dexter, and a retired employe of Warner Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of Dexter United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Esther Shore Ashley of Dexter; a son, John Maxwell Ashley of Dexter; two sisters, Mrs. R. H. Hightower Sr.

of Dublin and Mrs. Kate Morrison of Panama City, a brother, Bascom Ashley of Panama City, Fla. Adams Funeral Home in Dublin is in charge. Mrs. Wisham MARSHALLVILLE Funeral services for Mrs.

Willa McGuire Wisham, 60, who died Monday at her residence, were to be held today at 4 p.m. in Marshallville Baptist Church. Burial was to be in Marshville City Cemetery. Mrs. Wisham had lived in Macon County for 20 years.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny C. Wisham of Marshallville; a daughter, Mrs. John B. Skipper of Marshallville; two brothers, Ernest Guire of Perry and Lucious McGuire of Columbus; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Stevens of Pensacola, Fla.

Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montez zu a is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ella Jackson DUBLIN-Mrs. Ella Jackson, 74, died Tuesday morning in a local hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services were to be held today at 4 p.m.

L. Williams of Claxton. Mrs. Sarah Jones Mrs. Sarah Mae Haddock Jones, 82, of 1852 Christian died Tuesday night in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the graveside in Macon Memorial Park. Mrs. Jones was born in Dooly County but had lived most of her life in Macon. She was a member of Snow Springs Methodist Church in Unadilla.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. L.E. Brantley, Mrs. Ruth Kugelman, both of Macon, and Mrs. Nick Bonamo of New York, N.Y.; four grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs.

Eatonton Youth Dies in Fall DURHAM, N. C. (UPI) Shelton J. Adams, 20, a Duke University junior and pre sident of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, died Tuesday when he fell from a five-story dormitory building. A dams, an English major from Eatonton, was killed instantly when he hit the sidewalk.

Authorities were investigating in an attempt to learn what caused Adams to fall. Waste Disposal Action Sought ATLANTA, Ga. (AP) The head of the Solid Waste Management Section of Georgia state government says a mere 14 of the state's 159 counties have a solid waste plan. Moses said his agency intends to change that with a proposed set of rules and regulations. And a new law gives the Department of Natural Resources, which directs McCall's agency, power to establish statewide waste management rules.

The SWMS has proposed a set of rules which now goes to the Game and Fish Commission, which sets policy for the Department of Natural Resources. McCall, who feels the rule will become effective, says it will provide cities and counties throughout the state must complete a solid waste management plan by Jan. 1, 1975, with preliminary reports due beginning June 30, 1973. Flashes, Buzz Alarm Neighbor CHESTERFIELD, England (UPI)-Police broke into Len Marsh's apartment early one morning last week after a neighbor reported seeing flashing lights through the apartment's bedroom window and hearing strange buzzing noises. Marsh, 47, a factory worker, told police it was only his alarm clock, which triggers two flashing lights and sets off a loud buzzer.

Railroad employes will sit in a group.

Mr. Philmon Dies at 95 Marvin P. Philmon, 95, of 737 Ponce de Leon died Tuesday following an extended illness. Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the graveside at Macon Memorial Park.

Hart's Mortuary is in charge. Mr. Philmon was a Taylor County native and had lived in Macon since 1912. He was the retired superintendent of the Bibb Building at the corner of Broadway and Cherry Streets, which is now the Southern United Building. He was a member of Lynmore Methodist Church and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Willie Belle Philmon of Macon; a son, Homer A. Philmon of Ellijay; a granddaughter, Mrs. Paul K. Dunaway of 1 Bakersfield, and three great grandchildren. Mrs.

Nan Shanahan, Ex-Journalist NEW YORK (UPI)-Nan Riley Shanahan, a New York public relations executive and former news was killed Sunday in an Ethiopian Airlines crash in the Simen mountains near Gondar, Ethiopia, it was reported Tuesday. She was 39. She was one of 11 persons who died when the DC3 crashed in rugged territory, according to the Carl Byoir Associates, Inc. Before joining Carl Byoir, Mrs.

Safety Features Could Be Less, Beggs Charges WASHINGTON (A P) A Transportation Department official to da estimated the cost of installing new safety equipment on 1973 auto mobiles at $50 to $70 per car, but said the department has received only sketchy cost information from the auto industry. James M. Beggs, the department's undersecretary, told a public hearing launched by the Price Commission that the auto makers could have met the safety requirements more cheaply by designing safety features in the cars rather than adding them on. In most cases, he said, the auto makers added the required safety features without using a more comprehensive systems approach. He said in most cases there was time to design the new features.
