BERKELEY POLICE DEPARTMENT2+ weeks agoAgencyThe Berkeley Police Department is committed to the safety and security of our community. We are constantly working to educate the public on crime prevention tips. This morning, we responded to numerous reports of completed and/or attempted vehicle burglaries from last night throughout West Berkeley. At the time of this message, we have identified 53 victim vehicles. Auto theft and auto burglaries have been a reoccurring issue. As these investigations continue for those responsible, please utilize these tips in an effort to keep yourself, your family, and your property safe: •If feasible, always park in a well-lit or secured area. •Make sure your vehicle is locked, the windows are rolled up, and if you have an alarm, set it. •Take all your personal belongings or items of value with you. Do not leave anything of value inside the vehicle. •Remove all personal identifying information from your vehicle. Consider taking photographs of insurance cards and DMV registration information to keep with you versus leaving it inside your glove compartment. •If you have to leave anything inside your vehicle, store it out of site or in a locked compartment or the trunk (if equipped). If storing items in your trunk, try to place these items inside the trunk before your arrival so that someone does not watch you placing these items inside your trunk. •If you have any electronic charging cords in your vehicle, place these out of site as someone may break in to see if anything is attached to the cord. •If you have any electronics that you must keep inside the vehicle, turn the Bluetooth and WiFi signal off, place the electronic device into airplane mode, or turn it off completely to avoid the signal being detected from outside the vehicle. If you are a victim of burglary, have witnessed a crime, and want to report it, or have information about these crimes, please call the BPD Non-emergency line to make a report at 510-981-5900.27Like8
